Study Title

Selective Viewing:TV Programming Choices

Study Purpose and Rationale

This study examines your selection process when determining your specific TV program choices. Through your participation, the researchers hope to analyze what contributing factors (technological, accessibility, social) most impact your preferences and viewing experience.

Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria

Participants must be over the age of 18, have consistent access to TV programming, and be willing to sacrifice approximately 1 hour of their time to participate.

Participation Procedures and Duration

For this study, you will be asked to complete an entrance survey conducted electronically via survey software Qualtrics. You will have the option to be selected for a focused 20 minute interview. You may choose to withdraw from the study voluntarily at any time. Surveys should take approximately 10 minutes of your time, and interviews should take approximately 20 minutes of your time. Your total time commitment to this project should be no more than 1 hour.

Audio Recordings and Transcriptions

With your permission, the researchers will audio record your interview and subsequently transcribe that recording. Audio files and transcripts will be stored in password-protected Dropbox folders that only the researchers can access. Audio files and transcripts will not have your name directly attached to them.

Data Confidentiality

The researchers will be the only persons able to access information obtained from surveys and interviews. This form will contain both your name and email address for the sole purpose of distributing electronic emails. No other forms used in this study will carry any of your information. Your participation in both interviews and surveys will be anonymized through the use of a pseudonym.

Data Storage

Print forms, including signatures, will be kept inside a locked filing cabinet. Digital participant data will be encoded with identifiers and stored in a secure dropbox folder. The folder shall require a password in order to access it. Participant email addresses will be stored in a password-protected Qualtrics account with survey responses. Data received will be stored for no more than 2 years, afterwards it will be subsequently deleted.
